Why I Do This Work: Prioritizing What Matters Most

Supporting the emotional well-being of older adults isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am. Aging is a journey that brings with it deep love, shifting responsibilities, and often, overwhelming decisions. My role as a coach is to provide a steady, compassionate space where individuals can pause, reflect, and choose what truly matters most.

My passion for this work is rooted in my own story. I lost my mother at a relatively young age—a loss that shaped me in ways I’m still discovering. In her absence, my grandmother stepped in as a steady, loving presence. She was strong, wise, and graceful in her aging, and she taught me the value of listening, resilience, and being fully present. Her influence lives in everything I do. The care and respect I show my clients is the same care and respect I once received from her. This personal connection gives my work depth—it’s not just professional, it’s deeply personal.

One woman I worked with lived in a senior living community with her husband, who had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She invited me to meet him, and through our visits, I learned more about the rhythm of their life together. She also managed the community’s small store—a task that had once brought her joy, but had become a source of stress. In one of our sessions, I gently asked, “What’s the worst that would happen if you stepped away from the store to focus on your husband?” She hesitated. “People might be upset with me,” she said. I asked her to reflect: what’s more important—possibly disappointing others, or being fully present for your husband during this critical time?

A month later, I checked in. She looked noticeably lighter, more at peace. Her “worst fear” had come true—some people were disappointed. But she was no longer carrying the weight of the store. She was focused on her husband, advocating for his care, and spending meaningful time with him. She had chosen presence over pressure. And she had no regrets.

This is why I do this work. Life doesn’t stop as we age—but our energy, priorities, and needs shift. My goal is to help clients sort through the noise, ease the overwhelm, and create space for what truly matters.
